Sunrise, Sunset
Here we are, once again, back in the sleepy (at least for me literally) old town of Kuantan! It was a slow day what with a leisurely drive, having a good time of Bible Study on the book of Esther (which I thought was apt since, with the exception of EL, the rest of us were ‘fair roses’, haha!) with the Ls, enjoying a sumptious home-cooked dinner with my family and later at night supper with the girls while EL was busy being a ‘nanny’ to a sweet and lovely girl who resembles E
Looking around at the younger people growing up and maturing in all aspects of their lives is a humble reminder that I am getting older every passing day. I am still young (under-30) and feel very youthful. At times I feel that the clock has stopped for me; the older I get, the younger I feel (or maybe it’s an infancy sign of Alzheimer’s disease, haha!) probably because I interact with children and youths so much.
It doesn’t matter whether I live to a ripe old age or that I die tomorrow because I know where my final destination is as a child of God. As the apostle Paul said to the Philippians, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Abiding with God in heaven forevermore is the ultimate goal of every Christian, but as long as I am still on this earth, I will live, with His strength and guidance alone, a life of obedience to God. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
While the younger L girls were relating their choir competition tale to us, I remembered my own choir singing days. One of the songs that we sung was ‘Sunrise, Sunset’ which during my younger days the lyrics didn’t hold much significance or meaning but present older (and hopefully a little wiser?) me can appreciate more:
Sunrise, Sunset
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don’t remember growing older
When did they?
When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn’t it yesterday
When they were small?
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as we gaze
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears
What words of wisdom can I give them?
How can I help to ease their way?
Now they must learn from one another
Day by day
They look so natural together
Just like two newlyweds should be
Is there a canopy in store for me?
Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears
